Berkeley, in cooperation with Lambeth Council, has developed a Masterplan for the Oval and Kennington Development Area (OAKDA). This covers the Oval Gas Works and 16 surrounding parcels of land.

We have been consulting with the local community since January 2015 to understand your vision and aspirations for the area. At the end of 2015 a draft masterplan was released to the community for consultation. Berkeley then worked to collate the feedback and to then agree amendments to the proposals. This culminated in the submission of the Masterplan to Lambeth for formal consideration in May 2016.

The Masterplan evolved through expert analysis, engagement with the Council, the local community and other key stakeholders over a period of two years. However since then there have been further developments and analysis.

Berkeley has been in detailed pre-application discussions with Lambeth Council and the Mayor of London on the Oval Gas Works site, located at the heart of the Masterplan area, since May 2016. The need to deliver affordable housing on the site has been at the forefront of discussions with the authorities and as such has created an opportunity to revisit the affordable housing strategy across the wider Masterplan to deliver more of the much needed affordable housing.

As a result amendments have had to be made to the existing Masterplan and Berkeley has drafted a Masterplan Addendum to illustrate changes necessary to achieve the revised affordable housing target, as well as increasing other public benefits.

Berkeley is wholeheartedly committed to working in partnership with the local community and we are keen for residents to be able to review the key aspects of The Masterplan Addendum document in more detail. As such, Berkeley held a public exhibition to showcase the amendments to the OAKDA Masterplan on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th October.

Since the exhibition held in October Lambeth's Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration and Jobs has expressed in principle support for the OAKDA Masterplan and Addendum Document on 27th December 2017.
